Identifying the most valuable citations

In Q2, 2011 we conducted a large research project to identify the most valuable SEO Citation sources for businesses in the US & UK.

We extracted Citation information from 480,000 Google Places listings and compiled a unique list of over 1.1 million individual, Citation sources. The GP listings spanned a diverse range of business types (55) and locations (100+) and provide a good representation of the market as a whole.

This list was extensively filtered by the BrightLocal research team to remove sites which did not represent a genuine Citation opportunity for local businesses (i.e. a local business can’t easily get listed on a site) leaving a concentrated list of 15,000 potential citation sources.

Some of these sites appeared hundreds of thousands of times and represent the most powerful Citation sources in the market. We have included the frequency count within the download table provided along with additional data from our database on ‘Type of Site‘ and whether the site offers a ‘Free or Paid Listing‘
