SEO tools have never been short on data.

Rank charts. Grid maps. Citation counts. Review trends. Competitor snapshots. Website signals.

That’s a lot of noise. And a big time sink.

The average small business marketer doesn’t have time to sift through all that, make informed decisions, and do their day job.

That’s what AI Insights is built to do.

AI Insights is our first flagship AI feature inside the BrightLocal platform, designed to help you move from data → meaning → recommendations → action faster, with less second-guessing.

“We’re going on this journey from providing data about what’s going on to actually telling you what that really means and what’s important about it, identifying recommendations and then linking you through to action so you can move from data to action much, much faster.”

– Myles Anderson, CEO and Co-founder BrightLocal

And what’s more, they’re just the beginning. In the coming months, we’ll introduce more ways to help local businesses take action with confidence.

What are AI Insights?

AI Insights are auto-generated recommendations produced by BrightLocal Brain (the intelligent engine powered by 16 years of expertise) when it analyzes your local SEO data for a single location.

 In plain terms, it answers:

“What are the key things happening in my local SEO right now, and what should I do next?”

Rather than leaving you to stitch together separate reports and decide what matters, AI Insights pulls your most important signals into a single, plain-language summary with prioritized actions.

Dashboards Don’t Drive Growth on Their Own

A common misconception among business owners is that getting an SEO tool is enough to start ranking and that simply tracking visibility or monitoring reviews will increase their rankings.

But that’s simply not the case. Improving your local SEO comes from turning the data in these dashboards into actionable insights and specific tasks. And the problem is, not everyone has the time or skill required to do that.

Even experienced local SEOs hit the same friction points:

  • Time: A proper audit takes hours, especially across multiple locations. And budgets are tight.
  • Confidence: You can suspect what’s wrong, but you still want proof before you start doing the work. You don’t always have someone to bounce this off of.
  • Focus: You might spot 12 “issues,” but only 2 or 3 will actually move the needle this month. There are only so many times you can call something ‘low-hanging fruit’.

AI Insights is designed to reduce the busywork and surface what matters, so you can get to action faster.

What AI Insights Looks like in the Real World

Here’s a simple scenario many will recognize:

  1. You notice your HQ’s been getting fewer calls in the last month, but you aren’t sure why. Is visibility down on Google Maps? Has one of your competitors gained ground?
  2. Your instinct is to dive into rankings first, then a more detailed grid visibility report, then your GBP Insights, then citations, then look at your reviews.
  3. After all that, the “root cause” might still be unclear after a couple of hours of headscratching. And what you really want to be doing is helping a client fix their roof.

AI Insights is designed to shortcut that process by highlighting the most likely drivers and surfacing what to do next.

That could look like:

  • a mismatch between what the website emphasizes and what GBP communicates,
  • a downward trend in review sentiment or velocity,
  • a specific competitive pressure in the grid,
  • a citation inconsistency dragging trust signals, or
  • an “obvious in hindsight” issue you didn’t prioritize because it wasn’t in the report you checked first.

“AI Insights really opened my eyes. I updated my meta titles and descriptions based on its suggestions, and my rankings jumped immediately. I’m now ranking around number 10 for my main keyword, where I was pages down before.

The tool gives me ideas I couldn’t have even thought about on my own. I love reading the summary, it’s very positive and provides clear suggestions on exactly what to do next, especially for my website.”

– Jeremy Raymond, Founder and CEO, East Texas Title & Loan

Who AI Insights is for (it’s not just “beginners”).

Different users will get different value from it, but the core promise stays the same: help you make better decisions, faster.

For small businesses, it offers a real chance to get deep local SEO expertise, on-demand. Saving you potentially hours of number crunching, as well as actually doing the work.

  • In-house teams: It gives clear prioritization. A clearer view of what to focus on first when resources are limited.
  • Small businesses: It brings clarity and guidance. Less overwhelm, more direction, and fewer false starts.

And it’s not just for them either. For agencies, it offers speed and scale. Faster diagnosis across multiple locations, plus confidence before presenting recommendations to clients.

The goal is not to remove your expertise. It’s to help you get to the strategic decision faster.

“AI Insights has already proven its worth as a major time-saver. In one instance, the tool caught a local SEO issue that had already taken me hours to diagnose manually. If I had run this tool first, it probably would have saved me a couple of hours of work. It is a highly reliable way to ensure nothing gets missed.”

– Travis Stour, Founder and Lead Strategist, Scrappy Marketing

Where AI Insights Gets Its Data

AI Insights is only as good as the inputs it can analyze. That’s why we built BrightLocal Brain.

BrightLocal Brain draws on the local SEO signals that genuinely influence visibility. It uses our 16 years of local marketing expertise and data. Then combines data from our own Local Search Grid, Rank Tracker, Citation Tracker, and Reputation Manager. From these, it pulls:

  • Search rankings (traditional rank tracking)
  • Google Map visibility (how you show up across a geographic area)
  • Google Business Profile (GBP) signals
  • Reviews and reputation trends
  • Citations and listings consistency
  • Competitor context (because rankings without context are just numbers)
  • Website signals (what your site communicates, and whether it aligns with your GBP and off-site presence)

We want to emphasize that the value here is not just “AI summarizes a report.”

“AI Insights is more specific and actionable than any other AI integrations in local marketing tools I’ve used.”

– Travis Staut, Founder and Lead Strategist, Scrappy Marketing

The value is that our specially trained AI interprets relationships between multiple data sources, the way a good consultant would. It then runs them through BrightLocal Brain. And this is the real difference maker.

A screenshot of the BrightLocal platform that shows an example AI Insight for a law firm. With the summary and at a glance actions.

Then, beyond just describing what you’re seeing, it gives you specific actions to add to your to-do list, with context. The example above shows you what this currently looks like. Exciting changes are coming soon to make it even more useful.

What makes this AI different: meet BrightLocal Brain.

If you’ve ever pasted local SEO data into a generic LLM and asked, “What should I do?”, you’ve probably seen the same issues:

  • Overly general advice.
  • Conflicting recommendations.
  • Missing context.
  • No understanding of what data is most trustworthy.
  • No consistency from one prompt to the next.

We didn’t want “ChatGPT, but inside a tab.” We wanted something that really understood the nuance.

So we built it.

“If you were just putting that data into an LLM and asking it for what to do next, you wouldn’t get the same depth of insight.”

– Ed Eliot, Co-founder BrightLocal

BrightLocal Brain is the AI-powered engine at the center of our platform.

How BrightLocal Brain Strengthens AI Insights

BrightLocal Brain combines:

  • Large language models, for interpretation and natural-language insight.
  • The BrightLocal local SEO methodology, which has been built over years of working with agencies, brands, and small businesses.
  • Data from your locations, so recommendations are rooted in what’s actually happening, not generic best practices.
  • Operational playbooks, including patterns and processes used in real-world local SEO work.

That last point matters.

AI Insights is more useful when the “what to do next” is based on a coherent methodology, not a scattered mix of internet opinions.

How to Get Started with AI Insights

AI Insights is available to everyone on Manage and Grow plans right now. It’s also available to anyone taking out our free trial.

You’ll find AI Insights in our platform inside a location’s Location Summary, under the AI Insights tab.

If you’re an existing customer:

  1. Head to a location inside the BrightLocal platform.
  2. Open the Location Summary.
  3. Click the AI Insights tab and generate insights.

It’s that easy. For best results, you’ll need a recent Local Search Grid report and a recent Citation Tracker report.

If you’re a new customer, you’ll see your insights right after you’ve set up your first location, which will happen when you set up your account. Yes, it’s that quick to get your hands on these insights.

This Is Just the Beginning

AI Insights is our first major step toward a future where local SEO software goes beyond dashboards of reports and into real, tangible action.

Less time fighting your way through data.

More confidence in what you recommend.

Clearer priorities.

And a faster path from “here’s what’s happening” to “here’s what we’re doing about it.”
